[GilbertClub] Post-doc position in coastal sustainability at Indiana Univ

Hi All,

Please see the description below regarding an open post-doc position in my lab at Indiana University.  Application review starts Jan. 1.

Doug Edmonds

The department of Geological Sciences at Indiana University invites applicants for a post-doctoral research position in lab of Professor Douglas Edmonds.  The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary NSF coastal SEES project on the sustainability of deltaic coastlines, with particular reference to the Mississippi River Delta.  This proposal seeks to integrate delta morphodynamics, wetland ecology, and storm surge dynamics to quantify how changes in rates of land building influence human population dynamics using  field work and modeling in three coastal basins in the central Mississippi River Deltaic Plain. The candidate will be involved in developing a basin-scale morphodynamic model using Delft3D and ADCIRC based on the Mississippi Delta to understand how deltaic land building is affected under different conditions of fluvial sediment delivery and retention.

A Ph.D. in geosciences (or earth science equivalent), or engineering is required.  Experience in one or more of the following will be considered positive: numerical modeling (especially morphodynamic modeling), fluid dynamics, sedimentology, coastal geomorphology, earth surface processes, or familiarity with the dynamics of the Mississippi Delta.  The position is one year, with renewal depending on progress and funding availability.  Preferred start date is March 1, 2015, but that is negotiable. For full consideration submit an application at http://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/1105 by Jan. 1, 2015.  Questions can be addressed by email to Professor Doug Edmonds (edmondsd@indiana.edu), Department of Geological Sciences, 1001 E. Tenth Street, Bloomington, IN 47405. Indiana University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer; women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
