Geomorphology Full-time Visiting Position

The Albion College Department of Geological Sciences anticipates hiring a one-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professor beginning August 2015, pending budgetary approval.  The position has the potential of renewal for a second year.  The candidate will preferably have completed a Ph.D. in geology prior to the date of appointment, although ABD candidates will be considered.   Applicants must have research and teaching experience in the areas of surficial geology/geomorphology.  The candidate may also teach an advanced course on glaciers and climate change, or on another topic.  The teaching load is two courses (lectures and labs) per semester and typically includes an advanced and an introductory course.  The candidate will be expected to assist and mentor undergraduates in research and participate in other department activities.

 

The Department of Geological Sciences offers majors in both Geology and Earth Science and minors in GIS, Environmental Geology, Geology, and Paleontology and currently has about 40 majors and 20 minors.  The department is well equipped with seven teaching laboratories, analytical equipment, geology shop facilities, as well as extensive GPS, surveying, data-logging, and other field equipment.  The dedicated R.G. Clark GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory has 16 workstations, featuring the latest versions of ArcGIS and ENVI software.
