Fixed Term Lectureship in Geomorphology and Earth Surface Dynamics

The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of world Universities and one of the UK’s top 10 research-intensive universities. We have an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities.

The Department of Geography & Environment is seeking to appoint Fixed Term Lecturer specialising in Geomorphology. We particularly invite applications from candidates whose research interests complement those of our Earth Surface Dynamics (ESD) research group. We would especially welcome those with substantive or methodological research interests in areas such as coastal or estuarine geomorphology and/or the impacts of climate or broader environmental change on geomorphic systems. Geography and Environment is a leading international centre for geographical research. The ESD research theme includes foci on fluvial, aeolian and glacial geomorphology. More broadly, the academic unit is also leading centre for application of Earth observation and GIS tools, including Terrestrial Laser Scanning, to a range of environmental problems.

You will be able to deliver excellent undergraduate teaching and will contribute to and help develop our teaching programme and undertake research in line with the Unit’s research strategy. You will have a PhD in Geography or a related field, an emerging profile of academic publications and the potential to win external research funding. Undergraduate teaching experience would be advantageous.

The post is tenable from 1 December 2015 until 31 July 2016 and is fixed term in nature to cover staff absence.

Interviews will be held on 17 September 2015.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Stephen Darby (Head of Department; S.E.Darby@southampton.ac.uk), Dr Joanna Nield (BSc Programme Leader, J.Nield@southampton.ac.uk), or Professor David Sear (Head of ESD Research Group, D.Sear@southampton.ac.uk).
