Please seethe description below.Within the Department of Geography, the Environmental Systems DynamicsLaboratory quantitatively studies the ways in which physical, biological, and human components of the environment are linked to understand howcritical ecosystems and the functions that they perform may change overtime. Water flows as a theme through this research as one of the componentsof the environment most critical to life and indeed, perhaps the singlemost dominant factor sculpting the geography of Earth’s natural and humanlandscapes.ResponsibilitiesThe candidate would be providing laboratory support for ongoing projects inthe ESDL. This entails ensuring that laboratory and field instrumentationare running smoothly, performing sample analysis, preparing reagents, andassisting with the setup of a new laboratory flume for studies of sedimenttransport in vegetation canopies. Limited field work will likely also berequired.Projects that the candidate will be involved in focus on understanding themechanisms and environmental impact of organic material transport inparticulate and dissolved form using approaches from organic geochemistryand environmental fluid mechanics. More information about the EnvironmentalSystems Dynamics Laboratory is available at www.esdlberkeley.com. Thesuccessful candidate should work well in diverse teams, as she/he would beworking closely with other laboratory personnel, including undergraduateand graduate students and postdocs.Key Responsibilities :=E2=80=A2 Running and maintaining laboratory instrumentation, including afluorometer, dissolved organic carbon analyzer, and particle size analyzer=E2=80=A2 Assisting with planning and characterization of a new water flume=,constructed to perform experiments on sediment transport in biologicallyactive environments=E2=80=A2 Preparing solutions and reagents=E2=80=A2 Participating in and providing support for field projects=E2=80=A2 As need and interests dictate, potentially performing routine dat=aanalysis in support of ongoing field projectsRequired Qualifications=E2=80=A2 Experience preparing laboratory reagents=E2=80=A2 Experience in troubleshooting instrumentation=E2=80=A2 Experience with physical laboratory experiments=E2=80=A2 Familiarity with spreadsheet software such as Excel=E2=80=A2 Bachelor=E2=80=99s degree in chemistry, engineering, or one of th=e physical orenvironmental sciences (or equivalent years of experience)Preferred Qualifications=E2=80=A2 Experience with organic carbon analysis=E2=80=A2 Experience with sediment transport experiments=E2=80=A2 Familiarity with fluid mechanics=E2=80=A2 Master’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or one of the physical= orenvironmental sciences (or equivalent years of experience)*To apply:*Visit http://ift.tt/1SJVkXt search on position #20208.Please feel free to contact me with questions.
