The Division of Social Science at Grenfell Campus, Memorial
University of Newfoundland invites applications for a three-year
regular term position in Environmental Studies/Geography at the rank
of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2016 to July 31, 2019.
GRSS-2016-001, Environmental Studies/Geography: The successful
candidate will be appointed to the Environmental Studies Program and
will contribute to teaching and curriculum development within that
academic unit, particularly within the Geography Minor.
Opportunities also exist for teaching and supervision at the
graduate level through the Master of Arts in Environmental Policy
We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in economic
and cultural geography, environmental planning and management,
community and regional planning and development, and environmental
impact assessment. A completed PhD is required, preferably in
Geography. Applicants with a PhD in a cognate discipline (e.g.
Planning, Environmental or Interdisciplinary Studies) and a Masters
in Geography may also be considered.
Additional requirements include experience in undergraduate teaching
and curriculum development; an established research profile and a
proven ability to garner external funds to support research; and a
commitment to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Experience
with graduate student supervision and a track record of
collaboration with government, business, community and/or aboriginal
groups are also assets. The successful candidate will have a
research agenda of relevance to Newfoundland and Labrador with
strong potential to contribute to Grenfell’s growing competencies in
research, teaching and engagement related to innovation,
environmental policy, planning and management, and community and
regional sustainability.
