The Department of Geology and Environmental Science (http://ift.tt/25qik9I) at the University of Pittsburgh invites
applications for a full-time visiting assistant professor
position beginning
in the Fall of 2016. The position
is outside of the tenure stream.
The successful
candidate will
be expected to teach both undergraduate curriculum
courses including The
Planets,
as well as possible graduate courses
such as Volcanology, Tectonics, Geophysics, Planetary Geology and/or those
that fall
within the candidate’s
area of expertise. The position may also include
serving on MS and
PhD student committees
as well as helping to direct undergraduate research
projects. The
department offers an undergraduate certificate program
in GIS/RS, a
professional M.S.
degree in GIS/RS (http://ift.tt/25mzQIp.) and MS and PhD degrees in
Geology & Environmental Science.

We are interested in a colleague
with research
expertise that integrates well with current
departmental directions as described on our
website. Of particular interest
is a background in one or more of the following areas: volcanology/petrology, planetary surface processes, tectonics, geophysics, remote sensing (RS)
of natural systems, and/or the use of
GIS modeling. Skills with computer networks
are also especially desirable. Although not required, the candidate can also develop
their own
externally- funded research
program.
