DESCRIPTION: Humboldt State University’s Department of
Environmental Science and Management invites applications for an
academic year tenure-track faculty position in Restoration Ecology
and Natural History.
RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: We seek to fill this position at the
Assistant Professor rank; however rank and salary are dependent on

PROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Ph.D. in Restoration Ecology, Natural
History, General Ecology or a closely related
discipline (such as Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Soil
Science, Forestry, Rangeland Science, Watershed Science) from an
accredited college or university is preferred at the time of
appointment. Applicants with considerable progress toward
doctorate degree completion by appointment date will be
considered. Completion of terminal degree is required prior to the
start of the second probationary year following initial
appointment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
Potential for effective teaching or teaching experience using a
variety of methodologies;
Expertise in restoration ecology, general ecology, natural
history, and field methods;
Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a
learning environment that is supportive of individuals from
diverse backgrounds;
Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and
scholarly activity;
Interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses (major,
general education, etc.); and
Willingness to participate in the development of online learning
experiences.
At the time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a
U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of
Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching
excellence and to building a strong research record. Teaching
assignments may include: Applied Natural History & Ecology,
Principles of 
Ecological Restoration, Applied Ecological Restoration,
Environmental Methods, Environmental 
Science and Management Senior Capstone, Freshman Seminar, and
Graduate Seminar. Instructional assignments will be consistent
with the programmatic needs of the department and students.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty
members are teaching; research and scholarship/creative
activity;and service to the University, profession and community.
These responsibilities include: advising students, participation
in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours,
working collaboratively and productively with colleagues,and
participation in traditional academic functions.
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Environmental Science and
Management offers a B.S. degre in Environmental Science and
Management (with six degree options, including an option in
Ecological 
Restoration), as well as a M.S. degree in Natural Resources. The
