About the role:
We are seeking a talented researcher with a strong track record in seagoing observational biogeochemistry that is focussed on understanding the interplay of ocean carbon and nutrient cycles. To contribute to our wide portfolio of research in this area, you will be expected to work within the framework of our existing suite of programmes in the North Atlantic and Southern Ocean, but also to develop your own specific focus to complement the work of NOC on this topic. You will have the opportunity to develop a world class programme by linking to other groups in NOC including biological oceanographers, satellite oceanographers, numerical modellers, sensor technologists and large scale ocean circulation experts.
This is a Band 6 position and the starting salary will be £28,200 to £30,600 per annum.
Hours of Work:
The hours of working are full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
You will be able to conceive, design, deliver and fund world-class research programmes focussed on delineating and quantifying processes involved in global nutrient cycles and oceanic carbon uptake and storage. You will have a PhD and a strong record of publication in this field. You will have experience of using key technology (e.g. Vindta, autoanalysers) to make high quality observations of the ocean carbon and nutrient cycles, both in the laboratory and at sea. You will have experience in organising large-scale, complex fieldwork and the skills to analyse large multi-disciplinary datasets, possibly including satellite data and model output, to address major scientific questions. You will have a proven ability to communicate your research and its relevance and be willing to attend national and international meetings to do this. You will be willing to work at sea.
