The
Opportunity:

The
School of Urban and Regional Planning in the Faculty of Community Services at
Ryerson University

(https://ift.tt/2BpfRSE) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at
the rank of Assistant

Professor
effective July 1, 2019, subject to final budgetary approval.

The
primary research and teaching interests of the successful candidate must be in
the following area:

Environmental
Planning as it relates to climate change, hazards and resiliency, land use and
health with skills in

data
analysis and quantitative methods.

The
School of Urban and Regional Planning, consisting of approximately
450 undergraduate and 70 graduate

students,
prides itself both on the quality of its teaching and the breadth and
excellence of its research. The

School
offers a four-year undergraduate planning degree, a two-year
Post-Baccalaureate/Diploma planning degree

and
a Master of Planning degree in Urban Development, all of which are
professionally accredited by the Planning

Institutes
of Canada. The School is a significant contributor to planning education in
Canada and is particularly well

known
for the quality of its applied approach to planning education, especially
studio-based teaching, and its

excellent
students. We have a large, loyal and engaged alumni network, and we are
approaching our 50th

anniversary.
The School is actively engaged in two new research centres: The Centre for
Urban Research and Land

Development
and the City Building Institute.

Responsibilities:

The
successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching and
research agenda of the School as well

as
the mandate of the Faculty of Community Services and the University. They will
be expected to teach a variety

of
core and elective professional urban planning courses at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels. The

candidate
will be expected to pursue an innovative and independent research program that
is externally funded

and
produces cutting-edge, high quality research, as well as demonstrating a
commitment to collegiality and

service
to the school, university, and community.

Qualifications:

The
successful candidate must have an accredited degree in Planning, will hold a
PhD in Planning (or a related

field)
or be ABD with a defense date set. They will be expected to demonstrate high-quality
teaching, a strong

research
profile and an emerging scholarly record, as well as the capacity for collegial
service in the School, the

Faculty,
the University, the profession, and the community at large. Additional
requirements include: eligibility for

certification
as a Registered Professional Planner; teaching experience in a contemporary
studio setting;

professional
planning experience; international and regional planning experience/interest;
demonstrated potential

to
fund, conduct and disseminate research; and strong technical skills such as the
use of graphic communication,

design,
spatial analysis and/or advanced statistical software packages.

Evidence
of excellence in teaching must be provided through a teaching dossier that
outlines the teaching

philosophy,
teaching accomplishments, including experience with course/curriculum
review/development,

excellent
pedagogical practice, sample syllabi and teaching evaluations. Evidence of
strong communication skills

and
a demonstrated ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students must be
provided.

Candidates
