Hallo
I would be grateful if you could circulate this advertisement about a job vacancy for a postdoctoral position in cloud modeling at Lund University in Sweden.
sincerely
Vaughan Phillips
************************************************************
Post-doctoral researcher position available: modelling of glaciated clouds
at Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, Lund University, Sweden
************************************************************
The vacancy is within the atmospheric modelling group in Lund University and will involve development of numerical models for simulation of clouds. Linux platforms will be used. The
main development language is FORTRAN, while processing of output is done with MATLAB as well as scripting languages. The research group maintains its own Linux machines but also uses other HPC facilities, such as those offered by LUNARC (www.lunarc.lu.se).
The research group of Dr Phillips at Lund University has a strong track record in creating new cloud models and applying them to tackle problems related to severe weather, cloud glaciation, lightning and mechanisms for aerosol effects on cold clouds.
The researcher will study the microphysics of glaciated clouds with a high-resolution model. These questions will be addressed: (1) What is the balance between the two precipitation
mechanisms for ice and liquid phase in a given cloud? (2) How is the balance dependent on the major environmental factors (e.g. those controlling cloud basin temperature)? (3) How does the balance between precipitation mechanisms affect the intensity of charge
separation and lightning frequency in storm? Such issues will be addressed using numerical models.
The position will be at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science at Lund University and will be for a period of at least 6 months in 2019.
Some of the requirements for the position are that applicants must have:- a PhD degree in meteorology and a bachelor’s degree in physics or equivalent field and experience of FORTRAN
in UNIX environment. It is desirable to have documented knowledge from their university education in mathematics, especially differential equations, numerical methods and/or computer programming and physical meteorology (e.g. cloud physics).

The deadline for online applications is 31 December 2018.
