The Leipzig Institute for Meteorology at Leipzig University, Germany, offers a
fully funded three-year postdoctoral position (TVL E13) starting as soon as possible in 2019.

 

The position will be within the project PACIFIC funded by the German Academic Exchange Service’s Make Our Planet Great Again – German research Initiative (http://bit.ly/2QVAk66).

 

You will lead the development of methods for tracking clouds and cloud fields in MSG-SEVIRI imaging. These tools will be used by you and the other PACIFIC team members to study aerosol effects on clouds by linking satellite observations
from geostationary and polar-orbiting platforms. A PhD student will be recruited to support this particular project task. The ideal candidate will be motivated, curious and have the ability to set independent research aims. Previous experience in working with
cloud imaging from space will be of benefit.

 

Applicants should have a PhD in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, physics or related fields as well as experience in cloud remote sensing, algorithm development, data processing and analysis, and scientific programming, e.g. using MatLab,
Python, or IDL. The work will include the presentation of research findings at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. Proficiency in English (oral and written) is mandatory. The position does not come with teaching obligations. The salary
level will be according to the German public service regulation (TV-L 13).
