[GilbertClub] Graduate student opportunity in sediment resuspension

The University of New Orleans Dynamics of Sedimentation lab (UNO DoS; http://www.bedform.org) is seeking a masters or PhD student to contribute to the development of a new model for sediment resuspension that bridges the gap between
the fundamental scale physics and practical applications of resuspension equations in morphologic models. Our approach is to 1) incorporate the best parameterization of the physical processes at the highest practical resolution and 2) incorporate fundamental
scale understanding of resuspension by formulating the larger scale resuspension model as a probabilistic model. The student will contribute to the project by conducting high-resolution simulations of sediment resuspension, developing a probabilistic model,
or conducting analysis of wave-driven sediment resuspension data. Applicants with experience or interest in developing high-resolution numerical or probabilistic models, data analysis in Python or Matlab, and strong written and oral communication skills are
encouraged to apply.

The student will be co-advised by Robert Mahon (UNO) and Meg Palmsten (U.S. Naval Research Laboratory). To apply please email Robert with a brief summary of your interest and experience.

Applicants must be US Citizens or US Permanent Residents. UNO is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants from diverse/underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Cheers,

Robert C. Mahon, Ph.D.
