Job Description
The Centre for Polar Observation and Modeling (CPOM) at UCL invites applications for a Research Fellow position in radar remote sensing.
The objective of this position will be to better quantify the sensitivity of snowpack properties on the radar scattering horizon and penetration depths.

An unprecedented set of radar data at Ku- and Ka-band will be collected during MOSAiC, allowing for better understanding of the seasonal evolution

of snowpack properties on radar returns. Key will be to evaluate results as a function of ice type (i.e. first-year vs. multiyear), snow brine content, temperature and density.

This post is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council for two years in the first instance and will be available from 1st September 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Key Requirements

Candidates will have a PhD, or thesis submitted subject to examination, in physics, meteorology, oceanography or related field. Experience in remote sensing and/or climate modeling, and 

a good knowledge of climate physics and dynamics with a focus on snow and/or sea ice is essential. Excellent knowledge of scientific programming and good English skills is essential.
